What is iScribbles?
My name is Chris Lightfoot and I set up iScribbles to give people just like you a chance to write about your memories and experiences, your adventures and travels or a favourite place you have visited, your family history, your local history, a memorable event or day in your life or any other stories/memories you would like to share with others.
I also wanted to create a website which would help inexperienced or completely new writers to have a go. Just because you are not an experienced or professional writer doesn’t mean that you can’t start writing about your life and experiences. To help you do this we not only provide plenty of writing advice and support but we also have adopted the bite-sized approach. This simply means that everything you scribble can be in manageable bite-sized pieces - the maximum number of words for each scribble is a generous 3000 words but if you can tell your story in less, then go for it. If you end up scribbling a whole series of stories you can link them together to create your complete story which you can then turn into an eBook or a beautifully printed and bound book.
We have also given some thought to those of you who aren’t confident computer users. The iScribbles website has been designed to make it as easy as possible for you to add your own words and pictures.
You create your story on iScribbles using a really simple template. All you have to do is to give your story a title and then either type your story directly into the template or copy and paste it from your word processor. You can then choose whether you want your story to be published on iScribbles immediately and whether you want to restrict your readers to family and friends (more about this in Getting started with i scribbles). We have included a number of pop-up help boxes on the template to guide you through the process. Whenever you see a ? on the template, you just click on it to display some helpful hints.
You can create as many stories as you want with absolutely no charge and you have access to all of the guides in our Learning and Resources Centre. However, if you want to benefit from our special writing support services, you will have to register as a PRO user. Full details of the cost and what you get for your monthly subscription are available from the Prices link in the bar across the top of the screen.
We welcome people of all ages and from all walks of life to contribute to the site. We want a website packed full of stories about real peoples’ lives and experiences.
We all have a story to tell but most of us underestimate its value. The 20th century was a period of remarkable medical, scientific and technological innovation and social, ideological and political change and it has completely altered the way we live. Although not many of us will have the chance to change the course of history we do have the chance of communicating it and so by writing about our lives and the places we know and love, we are creating a valuable record for future generations.
Your story, whatever your age, is part of our social history and in the future will be like a window into another time and place. So why not give it a try. If you don’t know how to get going, take a look at our helpful tips on getting started and you can begin to look forward to becoming an online published author. If you want any other advice then do contact us - we are always pleased to hear from you.
